Il Castello Guglielmi domina con la sua mole la città di Montalto di Castro. Costruita probabilmente nel XV secolo, come testimoniato da una lapide sulla torre, la struttura è stata poi rimaneggiata più volte.
Il castello è accostato su un lato alle mura del Comune, delle quali segue la linea curva acquistando così una forma convessa. Questo lato costituisce la parte più antica della fortezza: sulle sue pareti, sormontate da merlature guelfe, si possono ammirare numerose aperture di stile rinascimentale e ottocentesco. L’altra ala del Castello è stata costruita successivamente, nel XVIII secolo, completamente in laterizio. La leggenda narra che l’edificio fu costruito nell’VIII secolo da Desiderio, duca di Tuscia e poi re dei Longobardi.
