Tessennano è uno dei comuni più piccoli della provincia di Viterbo e del Lazio, si estende su una territorio di 1450 Ha circa. Si trova in una posizione piuttosto ottimale dal punto di vista climatico, infatti, occorrono solo 6 chilometri per raggiungere la via Castrense.
La popolazione è di circa 420 abitanti, in lenta diminuzione. Piccolo centro medievale, fu castello di Tuscania, le cui sorti si perdono durante lo Scisma.
Il paese fu dato da Papa Leone X, al Cardinal Alessandro ed a Pierluigi Farnese, incluso nel ducato di Castro nel 1537 e nel 1649 incamerato con lo stesso.
Nel 1788 Papa Pio VI concesse in enfiteusi Tessennano, Piansano e Cellere al Marchese Giovan Battista Casali Patriarca ed ai suoi successori.
Il terreno è particolarmente fertile, adatto soprattutto alla coltivazione dell’ulivo, dei cereali dei vigneti ed all’allevamento di bovini, ovini e cavalli.
